Closed aspiration systems
The aspiration of the tracheo-bronchial tree is a standard procedure in patients receiving invasive respiratory support. In order to reduce the risk of cross-infection and associated diseases through airborne droplets, the use of a closed aspiration is being recommended
According to statistical data in intensive care units, the incidence of VAP (ventilator-associated pneumonia) and nosocomial pneumonia, as a severe complication of long-term intubated and immobilized patients, occupies a leading place among all infectious complications. The development of infectious complications and pneumonia leads to an increase in patient's length-of-stay at the ICU, an extension of the period of mechanical ventilation, the prescription of combined treatment regimens with expensive antibiotics, and an increase in the labor costs of medical personnel for nursing.
The OlandMed Closed Aspiration System is available in six sizes from 6 Fr to 16 Fr as well as two different lengths per size, except the size 6 Fr, which is only available with a 35cm length. – Which may be combined with the OlandMed Respiratory Interfaces. See below.
